Counselling
Counselling provides you with warm and safe opportunities to discover, explore and clarify ways to tackle areas which you find difficult or problematic.
It offers you a structure in which you can investigate and better understand your thoughts and feelings.
Your right to make your own decisions is respected and encouraged.
Confidentiality is an important principle of counselling and all that takes place between you and me in counselling is treated with respect and discretion.
Counselling with me
Over the years some things have become very important to me and are a part of the way in which I work. I have a deep conviction that you are the expert about yourself. Hence the following thoughts.
- I need to listen carefully to you and check with you that my sense of you is real.
- I need to receive not only what you say, but also how and what you feel. Only then can I share my ideas with you.
- I will then need to listen carefully to hear from you what you feel will be right for you.
- I will check this with you and you will decide what to do and at what pace.
- I need to offer empathy and unconditional positive regard to you at all times.
- You need me to be congruent and genuine about what I am doing.
- When these things happen, your own resources will emerge to help you heal and grow – hence
- You are in control of the process and remain the expert about yourself.
